1.Why do
I have to pay for New Zealand Doctor?
Up until September 2008 New Zealand Doctor was available
free to all practising GPs. When the newspaper was started in 1989
it relied largely on advertising to run profitably and had only a
small base of paying subscribers. Much of that advertising was from
the pharmaceutical industry, a sector interested in targeting our
core readership.
However, in the last decade the volume of pharmaceutical
advertising has dropped markedly due to changes in the drug market
in New Zealand, seeing the closure of a number of medical
publications which had relied on advertising to stay
profitable.
New Zealand Doctor decided to start charging a
subscription for all subscribers to ensure the publication's
financial viability into the future.
2. Can
anyone subscribe to New Zealand Doctor?
Yes, anyone can subscribe to New Zealand Doctor though
there is a special joint subscription package for GPs and other
primary care prescribers, allowing them to buy New Zealand
Doctor and the drug data directory MIMS New Ethicals
for a discounted price.
3.What are the
subscription rates?

primary care you are eligible for a discounted joint subscription

WEBSITE
5. I used to be able to access the New Zealand Doctor
website, now I'm told I need to login. Why is this?
New Zealand Doctor launched its website in 1992, back in
the days when most people accessed the internet by dial-up modem.
The website has been through a few changes since then and in March
2010 was upgraded to the current site.
It was a costly move but one we felt was necessary to make the
website a truly useful resource for New Zealand Doctor
subscribers
6. I don't want to receive the newspaper? Why can't I get a
cheaper rate just for online access?
The website is produced using the newspaper's resources. The
inclusive subscription reflects this.
7. The organisation I work for subscribes to New
Zealand Doctor and we take turns reading the paper. How do I
get access to the login details?
There is one login for each subscription. You will experience
difficulties if more than one person tries to use the login.
What about library subscriptions?
Because of technical difficulties at our end we cannot offer an
institutional subscription per se. Libraries pay the same
subscription as non GPs and online access is restricted to the
subscriber (the librarian) and the logon details cannot be shared
with library patrons. If you would like to discuss this further
contact our subscription manager at subscribe@nzdoctor.co.nz.
