Public service job cuts top 2000 - Stuff

More than 2000 jobs have been cut from the core public service since the Government capped numbers soon after the 2008 election. The cuts include more than 600 positions that were shed in the first half of this year, according to figures from State Services Minister Tony Ryall.

Hospitals in Scotland have invested thousands of pounds into purchasing specialist beds which can take patients weighing up to 78 stone. A Freedom of Information request by the Press Association revealed that seven NHS boards had spent more than £154,000 since 2008 on the "bariatric beds".
