Media release from MedTech chief executive Vino
Ramayah
There are commercial reasons relating to a competitive tender bid,
why Healthlink has put this in the public forum. This is not
motivated by public interest and has nothing to do with the general
day to day sending of messages between practices, specialists and
DHBs. That system will continue as usual.
If the Commerce Commission does decide to investigate, Medtech
Global will happily cooperate.
The situation is Medtech Global and Healthlink have commercial
agreements. We have been in recent negotiations, initiated by
Healthlink to jointly bid for a tender. Healthlink wanted an
exclusive use of its solution. However Medtech's view is that
Healthlink's proposal would restrict the choice of messaging
carriers and Medtech prefers an unrestricted open solution.
Medtech Global has always had the safe and efficient running of
healthcare in New Zealand as its focus and this has formed the
basis of our research and development in health technology over the
past twenty five years.
