Media release from the New Zealand Nurses
Organisation
The New Zealand Nurses Organisation's (NZNO) commitment to women's
rights and women's health will be seen on the streets of Wellington
tomorrow (July 23) with staff collecting for Women's Refuge annual
appeal.
"Assisting the work of Women's Refuge is one way of showing our
commitment to the well-being of women and children in our
communities," NZNO manager Susanne Trim said.
"NZNO opposes injustice and inequality wherever it impacts on the
health and well-being of New Zealanders and assisting with Women's
Refuge annual appeal fits perfectly with that kaupapa. NZNO is
committed to collaborating with organisations whose work addresses
the social, cultural and economic issues which contribute to so
many health and social issues, such as family violence," Trim
said.
"NZNO members in general practices, in emergency departments, in
mental health services, see the impact of domestic violence on
women's and children's physical and emotional health. Assisting
with the appeal is one small way in which we can offer support to
all women and children who endure family violence," she said.
NZNO has allowed staff to take part in the appeal in work time.
