Media release from director-general of health Stephen
McKernan.
The Director-General of Health today released a Ministry structure
to support the changes to the health system that began in October
last year, including the establishment of the National Health
Board.
Today's announcement follows the release of a proposal on 17 March
and two months of consultation and feedback with staff.
The new structure will disestablish a number of positions, create
some new ones and change some existing roles to better reflect the
current health priorities.
There will be an overall reduction of 35 positions although the
exact impact on people will not be known until all new and vacant
positions have been filled.
The priority for the Ministry now is managing the matching and
selection process for staff and supporting those who are affected
by the changes. Redundancy is a last option and will not be
considered until all other options have been considered.
The new structure will be in place by 1 July 2010.
