Public urged to take care when visiting Christchurch hospitals

Canterbury DHBWednesday 27 July 2011, 5:12PM

Media release from Canterbury DHB

Icy conditions in car-parks and on paths leading up to Burwood, The Princess Margaret and Christchurch Hospitals have caused problems for some hospital staff this morning.  While some grit has been laid down, the public are urged to be very cautious when using the hospital car-parks and walking to the hospital entrances. Work is continuing on grading footpaths, access ways and car parks.

GP PRACTICES & PHARMACIES UP & RUNNING

Most GP practices are open for business today, as are pharmacies.  The public are reminded to phone their GP practice team 24/7 - if it's after hours their call will be answered by a nurse who can provide advice on what to do.  You can also phone your usual pharmacy to check their current opening hours.

Remember, if you're unwell, see your doctor sooner, rather than later - don't wait for things to get worse.  If you're feeling stressed after the quakes and this week's snow and cold weather, your GP can help by referring you to free counselling services. There are a range of services and people who can help you through tough times.
