Update Obstetric and Gynaecology Services at West Coast District Health Board

Media release from West Coast DHBFriday 29 June 2012, 11:54AM

Media release from West Coast DHB

Ongoing efforts from the West Coast District Health Board to secure specialist Obstetric and Gynaecology for an anticipated shortage from July 2 to July 5 have been successful.

The arrival of a specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology locum at Grey Base Hospital will mean that there are no gaps in the services offered to women on the West Coast next week and accordingly the contingency arrangements that had been put in place will not be required.

Dr Carol Atmore, West Coast DHB Chief Medical Officer says the West Coast DHB apologises for any additional distress and inconvenience that this situation caused to pregnant women and their families.

"Our commitment is to providing a safe service to mothers and babies and with this locum appointment we are pleased that a stressful situation has been avoided, she says.

Pregnant women should discuss any further questions with their Lead Maternity Carer / midwife.
