If family values are at the heart of United Future's policies,
Child Poverty Action Group calls on MP Peter Dunne to support the
Greens' Private Member's Income Tax (Universalisation of In-work
Tax Credit) Amendment Bill when it is further debated in the house
next week.
So far the Greens, Mana, Labour, NZ First and the Maori Party have
pledged support. Hon Peter Dunne's vote in the house in a
week's time will determine whether the Bill goes to select
committee stage.
"He could make an enormous difference in the lives of New Zealand's
poorest children by supporting this bill. To send it to
select committee stage would open it to wide scrutiny and help the
public see that in part child poverty has been caused by our very
badly designed policies and this is a chance to begin to remedy
that.
Paid Parental leave was supported by United Future to select
committee stage We urge him to do the right thing for this
bill that really would begin to address the disgraceful level of
family poverty in New Zealand," says CPAG Spokesperson, Assoc Prof
Susan St John.
