We have 2 unique and exciting part time opportunities for enthusiastic, highly motivated, and self-driven GPs, consultants, or registrar-level clinicians to provide specialist palliative care for Hospice Southland.

About the role
Reporting to the Medical Director, you will be part of a dedicated, passionate, and collaborative multi-disciplinary team that provides specialist palliative care in Invercargill and throughout Southland including the Wakatipu Basin. You can design or participate in quality improvement initiatives, and there is even the option to complete the Clinical Diploma in Palliative Medicine through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).

A part time role working 0.4 – 0.5 FTE per week plus on call roster (1-2 weeknights per week, 1 weekend in 4, public holiday rotation)
An On-call role which includes a structured 2 week Hospice orientation followed by participation in the on-call roster (1 weekend in 4, public holiday rotation, 1 weeknight per week or PRN weeknights to cover other doctors if on leave).
These positions could suit clinicians who are experienced in Rehab/Geriatrics, General Practice, General Medicine, or even recently retired consultants. Your interest in palliative medicine, excellent communication skills, strong organisational abilities, and an aptitude for teaching/coaching are crucial. Post-graduate experience or education in Palliative Medicine whilst desirable, is not essential.

Hospice Southland’s inpatient unit is a purpose built six-bed short stay facility staffed by experienced palliative care doctors, nurses and allied health personnel. With a history spanning 27 years, Hospice Southland remains in operation due to generous donations, volunteer contributions and Ministry funding.
