Ministry audits of PHOs and practices recover just $3 million since 2016

Fine print
The Ministry of Health audit and compliance team have carried out more than 200 checks of PHOs and practices since 2016
Every practice will have some form of irregularity. I don’t think I have seen any audit that is 100 per cent clean. It’s usually a technical thing

"To provide context, about $744.7 million went from PHOs to practices as capitation funding last year alone, according to the ministry."

Really? How is this consistent with a funding allocation of $196 million for the same period? Even if you add all the dispensing fees paid to Pharmacies (another $226 million or thereabouts) this does not add up. Maybe I am not just any good at maths.

Our small DHB paid about $7.5 million over three years for auditing so if only $3million is recovered across the whole country over that same time, we have a huge example of a  massive waste of health funding that could be supporting primary care instead of going to consultants and accountants!

What has been the annual total cost of fees reviews each year sinc 2004 .?how much has been paid to the accountants in the fees review committees each year? What has been the average hourly pay rate each year for these people ?Another General Practice oppressive bureaucracy  !
