The details:

A great opportunity exists in a rural setting for a specialist or medical officer to join a team of friendly professionals.

You will require the following qualifications/experience:

• Rural hospital medicine specialist, or on advanced trainee on the pathway for vocational registration with the Division of Rural Hospital Medicine,

• Accident and medical practitioners and/or,

• Emergency medicine specialists.

Tokoroa Hospital sees 13,000+ patients a year through its emergency department and has a 17 bed inpatient ward. There is also a four bed primary birthing unit on site run by an employed associate CMM and independent midwives.

There are plain radiology and lab services on site during working hours and on call after hours. Specialist clinics are run by visiting specialists from the tertiary referral centre, Waikato hospital (or Lakes DHB) which is one hour away by road.

The clinical work consists of trauma and medical emergencies, paediatrics, geriatric medicine, and family medicine.

The work is very rewarding and the case mix is interesting and varied, from primary and urgent care to critical emergencies. There is opportunity to do a variety of emergency procedures. As a rural hospital with an inpatient ward there is opportunity to admit and provide ongoing care for patients.

The applicant will need to demonstrate a high level of confidence in independent decision making.

There is opportunity to teach students, house officers and trainees and to do audit and research.

About the service:
Thames Hospital is part of the Waikato District Health Board, and is set against the hills on the Coromandel Peninsula on New Zealand’s North Island. We are a fully modernised rural and secondary hospital service, providing healthcare for a catchment population of 45,000. This population swells significantly over the summer holidays as the wider country makes their way to their favourite vacation destinations across the Coromandel. We pride ourselves on the provision of quality and patient focussed care and work in a true inter-disciplinary way with nursing and allied health team members.

About the role:
Our hospital provides a 15 bed emergency department seeing 18,000 patients per year which is supported by 24/7 laboratory and radiology services, including CT.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified and experienced medical practitioner to work with the highly successful Rowing New Zealand (RNZ) high performance programme, as part of the HPSNZ Performance Support team.

Working in collaboration with key HPSNZ and RNZ staff you will deliver medical services to high performance athletes and support the overall objectives of the Rowing New Zealand health and wellbeing strategy.

The role is based for two half days per week at the Karapiro Rowing Facility.

The successful applicant will hold a medical degree and have had experience in a range of medical environments. Applicants should have a proven track record of working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
