To balance staff workloads while maintaining service delivery, Dunedin Urgent Doctors & Accident Centre (DUDAC) announces temporary changes to its hours of operation.

From Monday May 5, the urgent after-hours centre on Filleul Street will close at 9:00 PM instead of the previous closing time of 10:00 PM, while boosting clinical staff numbers during open hours.

DUDAC General Manager Adam O’Byrne says the move is temporary.

“We are not immune to the primary care workforce pressures and have had to find a way to sustain our current workforce, many of whom are working long hours,” he says.

“A temporary solution is to reduce the hours of operation, balanced by a greater number of staff during operating hours to get through patient load.”

“Dunedin Urgent Doctors and Accident Centre is a critical community service, with a duty of care that extends to after hours, and we are committed to this.”

“If you know you need urgent care, please don’t wait. Call your GP. If they have no appointments or it’s after hours, please visit us as soon as possible. Should you need urgent help beyond 9pm, please go to Dunedin Hospital ED for care. If you are unsure what type of care you need, whether it’s urgent or not, we always urge people to ring their general practice for advice or for out of hours telehealth options, or to ring Healthline.”

The Dunedin Urgent Doctors & Accident Centre provides essential services, including treatment for injuries, minor emergencies, and health concerns between 8am and 9pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
