“At a time when good climate news is in short supply, we would like to give recognition to the announcement by Minister Shaw today of funding and plans to fully phase out all coal boilers in public hospitals by 2025.

This is precisely the sort of measure needed to addressing large sources of emissions, and can kick-start the full decarbonisation of the health sector.

It will also act as an impetus to speed up the removal of other fossil-fuel boilers, both within other parts of the health sector, such as in private hospitals, and outside it, for example coal-fired milk drying.”
